Thanks to SPV, Portugal recycled 5% more packaging from selective collection (drop-off containers and door-to-door) in 2015.
The introduction of the Ponto Verde Open Innovation business accelerator project was attended by around 100 people.
The amount of packaging sent for recycling in 2014 was the highest ever. Last year SPV sent for recycling 419,000 tonnes of packaging recovered from the household waste flow, which was 9% higher than in 2013.
Sociedade Ponto Verde is beginning one of the largest awareness campaigns ever conducted in Portugal for the recycling of packaging waste. The SPV Missão Reciclar (Mission Recycling) is designed to increase the recycling rate in Portugal, especially of waste from households and small businesses.
Sociedade Ponto Verde will be taking part in the Projeto 80 roadshow to raise the awareness of 13 to 17 year-olds of the importance of the environment and recycling.
Recycling of packaging waste from households, small businesses and HORECA increased 3% in the first half of the year. Plastic was the material that grew most.
