Sociedade Ponto Verde raises young people's awareness of recycling in Projeto 80

Sociedade Ponto Verde will be using the music by the band Azeitonas to promote recycling of packaging waste at 18 schools that are going to get a visit from the Projeto 80 roadshow. The roadshow's first stop is Escola Secundária D. Pedro V in Lisbon on 20 January.

In this project, Sociedade Ponto Verde will be inviting young people to rewrite the lyrics of the Azeitonas song “Ray-dee-oh”. Words like Smartphone, synchronize, stereo and download will be replaced by terms from the world of recycling and conservation of the environment. At the end, each team will record a video clip of their creation, which will then be posted on Facebook for people to vote for each school's best.

Sociedade Ponto Verde is one of the sponsors of Projeto 80, which is designed to foster discussion on issues such as sustainability, entrepreneurship and conservation of resources. By encouraging young people to submit projects that raise awareness of the need to protect the environment and, in particular, to encourage recycling of packaging waste, Projeto 80 supports one of Sociedade Ponto Verde's goals, which is to guarantee a practically endless sustainability cycle by increasing the useful life of materials and preserving the environment.

In the last 17 years, Sociedade Ponto Verde has helped to recycle more than six million tonnes of packaging waste. We are counting on this project to catch the attention of people who still don't separate. Young people aged 13 to 17, the project's targets, are influencers and players in separation at home and are also future decision makers in their own homes said Luís Veiga Martins, Managing Director of Sociedade Ponto Verde.

Projeto 80 is the responsibility of a partnership formed by Agência Portuguesa do Ambiente, Direção-Geral da Educação, Direção-Geral dos Estabelecimentos Escolares, Instituto Português do Desporto e Juventude, Quercus and Green Project Awards and has the support of the Portuguese government.

It will be visiting 18 cities and schools from north to south of the country in almost four months on the road. The Projeto 80 Roadshow's 275 hours of activities will encourage young people to undertake projects that promote entrepreneurship, the green economy, citizenship and volunteering, thereby helping to increase communities wellbeing and sustainable development.
