Sociedade Ponto Verde receives Green Project Award

The Sociedade Ponto Verde (SPV) Reciclar é Dar e Receber project was one of the big winners in the Motivational Campaign category of the Green Project Awards 2012.

The work that the organisation responsible for managing packaging waste has been doing to increase recycling was thus recognised. The award also showed the decisive role that organisations can play in society, in this case fighting poverty by promoting children\'s education.

\"We\'re delighted with this award, which recognises the excellent work that Sociedade Ponto Verde and its stakeholders have done over the last 15 years not only from an environmental but also from a social point of view,\" said Luís Veiga Martins, Managing Director of Sociedade Ponto Verde.

Last year, the Reciclar é Dar e Receber project, which was undertaken in partnership with Entrajuda and SIC Esperança, made the dream of thousands of children of having a better place to study come true. In July, the campaign\'s advert also received an award for the best social responsibility film from Meios&Publicidade.

Thanks to this campaign and to the public\'s efforts, around 1,000 children now have a better place to study, after the installation of 30 study rooms at private charities, five more than originally planned at the start of the campaign in early 2011.

In 2012, Sociedade Ponto Verde, Entrajuda and SIC Esperança are together again, with the help of the public, equipping or improving 25 new study rooms by recycling used glass packaging.

As last year, SPV will donate one euro for every tonne of glass sent for recycling in 2012 to set up these spaces for children from disadvantaged families. The public will be playing an essential role in separating its glass packaging and putting it in the green recycling drop-off container.

The Green Project Awards 2012 winners were announced today at Culturgest in a ceremony closed by Assunção Cristas, Minister of Agriculture, the Sea, Environment and Spatial Planning.

Around 200 projects in seven categories competed in the fifth Green Project Awards.
