Recycling of glass to create another 25 study rooms for children from disadvantaged families

In 2012, Sociedade Ponto Verde (SPV), Entrajuda and SIC Esperança are together again, with the help of the public, equipping or improving 25 new study rooms by recycling used glass packaging.

SPV will donate one euro for every tonne of glass sent for recycling in 2012 to set up these spaces for the children of disadvantaged families. The public will be playing an essential role in separating its glass packaging and putting it in the green recycling drop-off container.

As in previous years, the project is also designed to demonstrate the decisive role that organisations can play in society, in this case fighting poverty by promoting the education of children, who have been true ambassadors of the recycling cause.

The campaign partners Entrajuda and SIC Esperança will select and monitor the private charities that will receive these rooms.

Last year, the dream of thousands of children of having a better place to study came true. Thanks to the public\'s efforts, it was possible to set up 30 study rooms at private charities supported by Entrajuda, 10 more than originally planned when the campaign started in early 2011.

\"More and more people are separating packaging waste at home. They need to continue this habit by separating glass packaging. We believe that the recycling rate will continue to rise in the next few years and help make Portugal a success story in this area,\"

said Luís Veiga Martins, Managing Director of Sociedade Ponto Verde.

Last year, the 30 study rooms were selected from more than 200 applications received and analysed by Entrajuda and SIC Esperança. This year, existing applications will be reassessed and the charities with the best conditions for implementing the project will be chosen.
