Sociedade Ponto Verde (SPV) helped to equip or improve 61 study rooms at private charities all over the country as part of the Reciclar é Dar e Receber social responsibility project. The initiative took place in 2011 and 2012 and improved study conditions for more than 2,800 children from disadvantaged families.
Sociedade Ponto Verde donated one euro for each tonne of glass placed in the recycling drop-off container in those two years to create these areas at private charities.
Thanks to the public\'s contribution by recycling glass, in 2012 it was possible to set up 31 new study rooms for around 1,700 children, which involved an investment of around 185,000 euros. This result was also down to around 15,000 new fans who joined SPV\'s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/SociedadePontoVerde), thus making it possible to open two extra study rooms.
Support for the creation of the new study rooms involved handing in different materials, such as recycling bins, computers, printers, school furniture and supplies, all of which were made of recycled materials whenever possible. Some rooms were also built from scratch to improve their physical structures.
\"We would like to thank the public in this cause, which combines preservation of the environment and social responsibility. Their contribution by separating used glass packaging was essential in improving study areas for more than 2,800 children and young people,\" said Luís Veiga Martins, Managing Director of Sociedade Ponto Verde.
The project was undertaken in partnership with ENTRAJUDA and SIC Esperança, who selected and followed up the private charities with study rooms that underwent improvements.
\"This project is an example of how organisations can play a decisive role in society. This initiative helped prevent school failure,\" said Isabel Jonet, President of ENTRAJUDA.
\"One of the goals of SIC Esperança is to help charities\' projects. It therefore made perfect sense for us to be involved in this initiative for two years,\" explained Mercedes Balsemão, President of SIC Esperança.
