Where can I dispose of car mats?
Car mats are not considered packaging, and so they should not be put in recycling drop-off containers. Therefore, you shoudl throw them away with your household waste.
Where do I dispose of polystyrene?
Polystyrene is a type of plastic and should therefore be placed in the yellow recycling drop-off container. Small-size polystyrene packaging can be put straight into the yellow bin. If you are throwing away a large piece of packaging, break it into smaller pieces that fit in the container or take it to the recycling centre.
Can video cassettes be recycled?
VHS cassettes are not packaging and therefore cannot be put in recycling drop-off containers. There is currently no known way of recycling them, so you should dispose of them in your household waste.
Where should I put aluminium food containers?
Aluminium food containers can be put in the yellow recycling drop-off container, as they are made of metal.
Can aerosol containers such as deodorants and cleaning sprays be put in the drop-off containers?
As long as aerosol cans are empty, they should be put in the yellow container.
Can I put perfume bottles in the drop-off containers?
As long as they are empty, perfume bottles can be put in the green container.
Why can’t drinks glasses be put in the green drop-off container, given that they are made of glass?
The composition of packaging glass is different from other types of glass (drinks glasses, mirrors, Pyrex, etc.), and it does not melt at the same temperature. If this glass is dropped in the recycling containers it can result in glass with manufacturing defects, destroying a whole batch of recycled glass.
Do I need to wash packaging before putting it in the recycling container?
Packaging does not need to be washed. It should simply be rinsed of all contents, and dried if necessary, in order to prevent bad smells when stored at home. But it should be flattened in order to take up less space at home, in the container and when being transported.
Can I put items other than packaging in the recycling containers?
The only container for non-packaging items is the blue one, where you can put writing paper, envelopes, magazines and newspapers. The other (yellow and green) containers are for packaging only. Packaging has relatively uniform materials, but that is not the case with other items.
